Using Motoactv with Strava, Endomondo, Mapmyride, Mapmyrun, Runkeeper and more

One of the dificulties that Motoactv owners  expirience is its unability to import your workouts into a different fitness Manager website such as Strava, endomondo, Map my Run, Map my ride, Runkeeper etc. The reason for this is because the Motoactv records its workouts in a .csv format when most of the fitness websites allow you to import workouts in .tcx format which happens to be a very common format with fitness monitors. It is for that reason that Motoactv workouts cant be imported into the more advanced, feature rich fitness websites.

But not to worry I will not leave you there.

I spend a good amount of time on the Motoactv forums and came across a gentleman by the username of intermanaut that has created a webpage that allows you to convert those pesky .csv files into .tcx files. I do want to thank Intermanaut for the hard work this might have taken.

To do this:

1. Login into your Motoactv.com and select workouts.

2. Select the workout stats tab and click on download.

3. Save file in a folder that you know you will remember because you will need it for this next step.

Click or enter this as your URL: http://dev.zinu.co.uk/MotoActv/

Enter the file you want to convert into TCX

4. Log into your preferred fitness Manager ( Strava.com!) and import the TCX file that you just converted and Voila! like magic. Your workout is imported into your preferred website.

Like i said earlier it is unfortunate that the motoactv cannot be imported into other websites. I am sure that it is something that is being worked on. But until they figure that out we can all use this tool.

  1. 1. It’s awesome that an enterprising enthusiast created this and put it up on the web for people to use.

    2. This is an awesome post.

    2. This is *sorely* missing from Motorola’s offering. I just returned my MOTOACTV to the store yesterday and the lack of an integrated experience with 3rd party training/coaching/analysis websites is the single biggest reason I did.

    3. Had I seen this post before yesterday, I likely would have returned it anyway. One of the selling points of the MOTOACTV is that it syncs workouts via WiFi with no manual effort required. It’s cool that a user provided an online converter; however, actually trying to use that day in and day out would kill the streamlined user experience for me.

    4. Motorola needs to provide APIs for developers. APIs to get data in and out of the motoactv website. APIs to use the watch as a platform for apps.

Maybe I’ll give MOTOACTV another look if I see them taking solid steps in the right direction here. I hope they do.

    • I agree with you. That is definitely one of the things Motorola is missing here is the API developers. I am very passionate about the product but also understand that it is a first generation product.

    • Because that is what the customer wants. Other sites offer features that their own portal does not offer. Such as Strava.com, you can race other users in certain sections of your ride. Motorola Portal does not offer that kind of feature.
Another reason they should do it is because a good percentage of people have already adopted a website and have all of their workout data, and like the layout of the website. What this customer is doing is simply picking up another fitness device to track progress, and having it not be compatible with what they are currently using is a big hurdle for them, an extra step that should not be necessary.
Those are just a few examples and opinions, Hope this Answers your question.
